It’s been nearly three decades since Sandy Macarie walked through the doors of the North Canton Branch for her first day on the job as an Administrative Assistant. During that time, she’s seen a lot of changes — both at the company and in the world around her.

“Back then we were called branch secretaries,” says Sandy, who turned 69 in May. “We also typed machinery invoices by hand. It was a very detailed process, and if you didn’t type them a certain way, you definitely heard about it,” she laughed.

When she joined the company in 1991, email and technology were drastically changing how every professional worked. “My first computer was a word processor, and I went to training at the Cambridge and Dublin Branches. Now I don’t know what we’d do without computers. You just go with the flow. You have to.”

When asked what’s kept her working at Southeastern all these years, she says it comes down to three things: the people, the customers, and the culture. “I love talking to everyone, knowing the customers and saying hi when they come in. We have nothing but the best people here.”

For Sandy, working at Southeastern has been much more than a job. “It’s really been a second family. This company saw me through my late husband’s death and a pretty bad accident I went through. I’m so humbled by what they did and the support they’ve shown me over the years.”

She’ll be saying farewell at the end of September. As for what her retirement holds, she’s looking forward to new ventures with her significant other and family, splitting her time between Ohio and El Paso, Texas. As excited as she is to begin the next chapter, Sandy says she’ll look back fondly on her career at Southeastern.

“The management and the team have been so great. I’ll miss them every day.”
